How many jobs should you apply to per week?
Last updated 9 October 2026
Short answer. Apply to as many jobs per week as you can genuinely tailor, which for most people is somewhere between a handful and a dozen. Ten well-matched, tailored applications usually do more than fifty generic ones, because fit is what gets a reply.
Why volume alone does not work
Sending the same résumé to every posting saves time per application but lowers the chance of each one. Every reader sees a document that was not written for their role. The time you save is often spent waiting for replies that do not come.
How to set your own number
- Time one well-tailored application: résumé top lines, a short letter, the screening answers.
- Decide how many hours a week you can give the search.
- Divide. That is your number, and it is fine if it is small.
Where the time should go
- Choosing: only roles where your résumé proves most of the requirements.
- Tailoring: the summary and the top bullet of each relevant role.
- Following up: one short note a week later.
- Reviewing: once a week, look at which kinds of roles reply and shift toward them.
When to apply to more
If you get replies but no offers, the problem is later in the process: interviews, not volume. If you get no replies at all after a few weeks of well-matched applications, widen the roles or places you consider, or ask someone in the field to read your résumé.
Using automation sensibly
Tools can take the repetitive work, such as finding postings, checking the fit and drafting tailored documents, so that the number you can tailor goes up without the quality going down. The rule stays the same: a minimum fit, and true documents.
Questions
Is applying to 100 jobs a week a good idea?
Only if each one is a real fit and genuinely tailored, which is hard to do by hand at that pace.
Should I apply on the day a job is posted?
Early applications are often read first, so applying within the first few days helps when the role is a strong fit.
Should I apply to the same company twice?
For different roles that genuinely fit, yes. For the same role, once is enough.
Conxto checks live postings against your résumé, tailors each application from your real experience and prepares the letter and answers. Copilot: you send it. Autopilot: it applies for you.
