How to list projects on a résumé
Last updated 9 October 2026
Short answer. List each project with a name, your role, the main tools and one or two lines on the result or who used it. Give projects their own section when they are central to the role you want, especially for career starters and career changers.
The format
Timetable planner · personal project · Python, Postgres
Built a web app that turns course lists into weekly timetables; used by 60 students in my programme.
Which projects to include
- Ones that use the skills the posting asks for.
- Ones with real users, results or a public link.
- Two to four is enough.
Work projects
For projects inside a job, keep them under that role as bullets, unless they are large enough to need their own short block.
Links
Add a link to a repository, demo or write-up when it is public and in good shape.
Questions
Do personal projects count as experience?
They count as evidence. Label them honestly as personal projects.
Where does the projects section go?
After the summary for career starters; after experience for experienced candidates.
