How to quantify achievements on a résumé (even without metrics)
Last updated 9 October 2026
Short answer. Quantify achievements with scale (how many), frequency (how often), time (how fast), money (how much) or quality (how many fewer errors). If you do not have exact figures, use honest counts or ranges you could explain in an interview.
Five kinds of numbers
- Scale: "Trained 9 new analysts." "Managed 40 supplier accounts."
- Frequency: "Published the weekly report read by three teams."
- Time: "Cut month-end close from five days to three."
- Money: "Ran a €50,000 annual budget."
- Quality: "Reduced picking errors after redesigning the handover."
Finding numbers you forgot
- Look at old reports, emails, performance reviews.
- Count: people, projects, customers, products, locations.
- Ask a former colleague what changed after your work.
When you only have estimates
Use a range or "about" and be ready to explain how you know: "About 200 support tickets a month." Never invent a percentage; a reader who asks how it was measured will find out.
Questions
Is it OK to estimate?
Yes, if the estimate is honest and you can explain the basis. Mark it as approximate.
What if my work was confidential?
Use relative terms or scale without client names: "a top-five retailer" or "a 30-person team".
