Designer résumé and portfolio: how they work together
Last updated 9 October 2026
Short answer. For designers, the résumé's job is to get the portfolio opened: keep it simple and readable, put the portfolio link at the top, and in the portfolio show two or three case studies with the problem, your process and the outcome.
Résumé
- Clean layout, real text (not an image).
- Portfolio link next to your name.
- Bullets about outcomes: "Redesigned checkout; fewer support tickets about payment."
Portfolio case studies
- The problem and constraints.
- What you tried and why.
- The final design.
- What changed afterwards.
Less is more
Three strong case studies beat ten thumbnails.
Questions
Should my résumé be highly designed?
Readable first; heavy layouts can break in application systems.
What if my work is under NDA?
Describe the process with redacted or recreated visuals and say so.
Conxto checks live postings against your résumé, tailors each application from your real experience and prepares the letter and answers. Copilot: you send it. Autopilot: it applies for you.
