Job search burnout: how to keep going without wearing out
Last updated 9 October 2026
Short answer. Job search burnout comes from open-ended effort and silence. A fixed weekly routine, a small daily target, a clear stop time and measuring what you control, such as tailored applications sent, make the search sustainable.
Measure what you control
Replies depend on others. Applications tailored, people contacted and interviews prepared depend on you. Track those.
Set limits
- A set number of applications per day or week.
- A stop time each day.
- At least one day a week off the search.
Reduce repetitive work
Reuse your fact sheet and STAR stories; automate the repetitive steps where you can, but keep checking fit and truth.
Get support
Talk to someone each week about progress: a friend, a mentor, a peer who is also searching.
Questions
Is it normal to feel discouraged?
Very; long silences are common and not a judgement of you.
Should I take a break?
A short planned break often helps more than pushing through exhausted.
Conxto checks live postings against your résumé, tailors each application from your real experience and prepares the letter and answers. Copilot: you send it. Autopilot: it applies for you.
