How to answer "What is your greatest weakness?"
Last updated 9 October 2026
Short answer. Name a real weakness that is not central to the role, explain what you do about it, and show evidence of progress. Disguised strengths such as "I work too hard" sound rehearsed and tell the interviewer nothing.
Structure
- The weakness, honestly.
- What you do about it.
- The progress so far.
Example
I used to take on too many requests and say yes to everything. I now keep a visible list of priorities and agree trade-offs with my manager each week. Last quarter I pushed back on two requests early instead of missing deadlines later.
Choose carefully
Don't pick something the role depends on, such as attention to detail for an accountant.
Questions
Can I say I have no weaknesses?
No; it signals low self-awareness.
Should it be work-related?
Yes, keep it professional.
