How to track your job applications (and why it matters)
Last updated 9 October 2026
Short answer. Track every application in one place with the role, employer, date applied, status, contact and next action. Review it once a week: the pattern of replies tells you which roles to apply to more, and when to follow up.
The columns that matter
- Role and employer, with a link to the posting.
- Date applied.
- Status: applied, replied, interview, offer, rejected, no reply.
- Contact person.
- Next action and its date (follow up, prepare interview).
- Which résumé version you sent.
The weekly review
- Follow up on applications older than a week with no reply.
- Look at which roles replied: move your search toward them.
- Close out stale ones so the list stays useful.
Save the posting
Postings disappear. Keep a copy so you can prepare for an interview weeks later.
Questions
Spreadsheet or app?
Either works; what matters is that you update it the day you apply.
How long should I keep tracking a role?
Mark it as no reply after about four weeks and move on.
Conxto checks live postings against your résumé, tailors each application from your real experience and prepares the letter and answers. Copilot: you send it. Autopilot: it applies for you.
